IPC Section 171F in BNS: Section 174

Punishment for undue influence or personation at an election

Section 171F of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (Punishment for undue influence or personation at an election) corresponds to Section 174 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, in force from 1 July 2024. Under the BNSS First Schedule, BNS 174 is non-cognizable, bailable, triable by Magistrate of the first class; punishment: Imprisonment for 1 year, or fine, or both.

Text of BNS Section 174

174. Whoever commits the offence of undue influence or personation at an election shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year or with fine, or with both.
