BNS Section 290: Negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings etc

Section 290 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 deals with negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings etc. It replaces IPC 288 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Under the BNSS First Schedule, BNS 290 is non-cognizable and bailable.

Text of BNS Section 290

290. Whoever, in pulling down, repairing or constructing any building, knowingly or negligently omits to take such measures with that building as is sufficient to guard against any probable danger to human life from the fall of that building, or of any part thereof, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to five thousand rupees, or with both.

Exhibition of false light, mark or buoy.

Conveying person by water for hire in unsafe or overloaded vessel.

Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation.

Negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substance.

Negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter.

Negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance.

Negligent conduct with respect to machinery.

Negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings, etc.

Negligent conduct with respect to animal.

Punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for.

Continuance of nuisance after injunction to discontinue.

Sale, etc., of obscene books, etc.
