BNS Section 146: Unlawful compulsory labour

Section 146 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 deals with unlawful compulsory labour. It replaces IPC 374 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Under the BNSS First Schedule, BNS 146 is cognizable and bailable.

Text of BNS Section 146

146. Whoever unlawfully compels any person to labour against the will of that person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.

Exploitation of a trafficked person.

Habitual dealing in slaves.

Unlawful compulsory labour.

Waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against Government of India.

Conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 147.

Collecting arms, etc., with intention of waging war against Government of India.

Concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war.

Assaulting President, Governor, etc., with intent to compel or restrain exercise of any lawful power.

Act endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.

Waging war against Government of any foreign State at peace with Government of India.
