Section 117 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (Abetting commission of offence by the public or by more than ten persons) corresponds to Section 57 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, in force from 1 July 2024. Under the BNSS First Schedule, BNS 57 is according as offence abetted is cognizable or non-cognizable, according as offence abetted is bailable or non-bailable, triable by Court by which offence abetted is triable; punishment: Imprisonment which may extend to 7 years and fine.

The BNS applies to offences committed on or after 1 July 2024. Offences committed earlier are charged and tried under the IPC.
57. Whoever abets the commission of an offence by the public generally or by any number or class of persons exceeding ten, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years and with fine.
