From Section 69 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019: a complaint within two years of the date the cause of action arose. A commission can admit it later if you show sufficient cause for the delay.
What consumer commissions look at
- Who bears an unauthorised transaction: you or the bank?
- Did you report it quickly?
- Did the bank investigate, and produce the CCTV or the logs?
- Must the bank reverse the transaction?
Real cases. Every case is different.

Money was taken without me. Will the bank repay?
Under RBI's rules, if the fraud wasn't your fault and you report it quickly, your liability can be nil. The later you report, the more of it you may bear. Commissions have looked at whether the bank had proper safeguards.
Who should I report it to first?
Your bank, at once, and the cyber crime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
The bank says I shared the OTP. Is that the end?
Commissions have looked at whether the bank proved it, and whether it acted on your complaint in time.
