Can I be made to leave my husband's or in-laws' house?
The Domestic Violence Act gives a woman the right to live in the shared household, whether or not she owns it. Courts look at the facts, including when the in-laws own the house.
What can the court order in a DV case?
Protection orders, a residence order, money for expenses and maintenance, temporary custody of children, and compensation.
Is a DV case a criminal case?
It's heard by a Magistrate, but the reliefs are civil: protection, residence and money. Breaking a protection order is an offence.
